I have always said that Athens is so much more than just its city center! In my opinion, you find the finest and most unexpected pearls if you make your way out to the many wonderful suburbs of Athens.

By chance, my boyfriend and I found “Belga” cafe one day in the northeast suburb of Chalandri (which is one of my favorite suburbs if you were wondering!) and immediately fell in love with the cafe’s laid-back interior and their unbelievable Belgian waffles!

This is probably the only place, in Athens at least, where you can get the classic “Liege waffle” served just as if you were sitting on a small coffee shop in Brussels and they also serve wonderfully good coffee and hundreds of different sorts of tea! But it’s not just the waffles here (sweet as salty) that are worth tasting. They also offer many other good things like salads and pasta dishes!

So my tip is that you take a small daytrip up to Chalandri for a nice walk and some shopping in its many fine shops and then stop at “Belga” for a snack you will never forget! You will find “Belga” behind the church of Aghios Georgios in Platia Eleftheroton square number 14.
